BANDOL - 12 km from La Vista:
The coastal resort of Bandol is without a doubt the most coveted seaside town in the west of the Var, an area that we call Provence, like its celebrated rosé wine. Sheltered by the neighbouring hills and therefore protected from the Mistral, the centre of Bandol has a certain je ne sais quoi. Its port with the island of Bendor opposite (an island that belongs to Paul Ricard - only 200 metres away) gives it a picturesque aspect.
As for the beaches of Bandol, the choice is large and not always easy to make! Our favourite is Renécros beach with its white sand, even though a number of buildings give it a slightly too modern look. You can also find a few small hidden creeks in Bandol if you explore the coastal path that goes all the way to Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. The Centrale beach and the Casino beach are also very pleasant with wonderful expanses of sand.
The island of Bendor is also one of Bandol's attractions, even though the island is minuscule (it only takes 10 minutes to walk around it on foot) and its small port is a touch too kitsch… Shuttles from the port of Bandol provide access to the island (quite a dear trip in our view, even dogs have to pay for their ticket!). In our view, the island of Embiez in Six-Four-les-Plages is more interesting.
We recommend Renécros beach, especially for children!

SANARY - 15 km from La Vista:
Situated on the Var coast between Bandol and Six-Fours-les-Plages, the seaside resort of Sanary sur Mer has retained its Provençal character, with its colourful little pointus (traditional fishing boats) moored in its port. The town is very busy in summer but the atmosphere is entirely different in the low season.
There are eight beaches to be found in Sanary sur Mer. The largest of them is situated to the north-west, near Bandol. It's the biggest and busiest and boasts a lovely view of Bandol and the island of Bendor. Beside it, we find the beach of La Gorguette, a mixture of sand and pebbles, which also draws the crowds in summer. The Esplanade beach is Sanary sur Mer's town centre beach. It's not the most beautiful but its proximity to the centre is highly valued. There are also one or two secret, practically deserted beaches, which are ideal for people looking for a little peace and quiet. You can also find a beach to go surfing when the Mistral is blowing. A very diverse selection of beaches to steep your holidays in the ambience of Provence.
All this is very close to the calanques of Marseilles and Cassis. Both of these destinations can be visited by boat from the port of Sanary.
It is also possible, in summer, to go to the Embiez islands (Paul Ricard's island).
SAINT-CYR 15 km from La Vista:
Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is a small, typically Provençal village in the Var region, right at the end of the string of seaside resorts along the Bouches du Rhône coastline. The sea front in St-Cyr is called Les Lecques (2 km to the south-west). This is the busiest area in summer, especially around its port.
As for the beaches in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, the beach in Les Lecques is the biggest. Its is 1.4 km long with different areas catering for different tastes (sand, pebbles, private beaches, water sports, etc.). To the east, we also find the calanque of Port d’Alon, which gives a foretaste of the calanques around Marseilles and Cassis. It can be easily reached from a car park (very expensive…). The more courageous can follow the coastal path. There is also the beach of La Reinette at the beginning of the coastal path which is less well known than its neighbours. A small haven of quiet...

THE ISLAND OF PORQUEROLLES Only 1½ hours from La Vista: The Current Star
A little further from the villa: Notre-Dame beach has recently been chosen as the most beautiful beach in Europe by European Best Destination, ahead of Navagio beach in Greece and Zlatni beach in Croatia. If you don't know Porquerolles and the Iles d'Or, now's the time to go! The beaches all vie with one another in the beauty stakes and the island is still very unspoilt. On the schedule: pine forest, cicadas, the odour of eucalyptus and mimosa. If you find the blue in the photo a little unreal, it's because you've never been to Porquerolles. It'll be love at first sight!
